The very first Zephyr Project Meetup in Shanghai, China, took place on March 28, 2025, and it was an insightful evening of knowledge sharing and community building. Held at NXP Semiconductors’ Tech Park office in Pudong, the event welcomed developers and open source enthusiasts for an informative session.
With support from NXP Semiconductors, who graciously hosted and sponsored the event, attendees were welcomed with drinks and snacks before jumping into a packed agenda of expert talks – all presented in Mandarin to support the local developer community.
Highlights from the Sessions
Lyle Zhu, Zephyr Bluetooth Classic maintainer, kicked things off by sharing the current progress and roadmap for Classic Bluetooth support in Zephyr, including validation and qualification strategies. Slides here
A practical talk on how the Zephyr Bluetooth stack is being used in the Mi Home (米家) IoT ecosystem offered valuable real-world insight into protocol selection, optimization, and seamless device communication. Slides here
Jack Mao from NXP gave an overview of NXP’s support on the Zephyr ecosystem and how cortex-A core is supported with Zephyr through a real-time edge framework. Slides here.
Hake Huang, also from NXP, discussed how the company uses CI/CD and DevOps practices in the Zephyr ecosystem, sharing internal strategies for validation and contribution. Slides here.
After a short break, the second half of the event continued with more in-depth discussions:

Finally, Professor Guoqi Xie from Hunan University introduced ZVM: Zephyr-based Virtual Machine, a powerful new Type 1.5 virtualization layer built on Zephyr RTOS. He demonstrated how ZVM can securely run multiple operating systems, combining real-time performance with flexibility. Slides here.
Wrapping Up:
The event closed with an open networking session, where attendees had a chance to connect with the speakers, ask questions, and explore potential collaborations.
